Job hunting

So it's almost been a month since I've been in Madison and I've been putting résumés out there - but so far - nothing. I did get a callback from one recruiter who told me that she already put in 3 other résumés to the company when I called her back the next day. Guess I was too slow? Nah - she was incompetent. It's hard to find something in the IT field that doesn't require a lot of technical certifications, etc. And I'm sure I'm not catching any IT employers' eyes with my BA in music on my résumé. Oh well, the search continues......

Turn on the light to eliminate odors

When I first opened the door to my new apartment, I noticed that there was a strong scent of wet dog. After scouring the internet for something to neutralize the odor I came upon an interesting product: a lightbulb that kills odors.

Yeah, a lightbulb! Called the "fresh2" the light-bulb apparently works through a special coating. When turned on (and with some positive airflow) the chemical coating (Titanium Dioxide) emits strong oxidizers that neutralize odors. For a better explanation, here's info from their site:

"Fresh2 is a revolutionary light bulb that safely breaks down odors, while providing energy-efficient light. A healthy alternative to traditional, chemically based air fresheners. Simply turn on your light and fresh2 begins eliminating odors in just 10 minutes! Making it ideal anywhere you have persistent odors.

And fresh2 will continue to break down odors for three years. Plus, since it's a compact fluorescent bulb, its power to comfortably light your home will last 10,000 hours -- saving you hundreds in deodorizers and up to 75% in energy costs."

After reading everything on the site, I bought 2 bulbs and put them in my living room where the strongest odor was. I kept them on for a while - hours actually, but couldn't tell if they were doing anything. So I switched them to my bedroom where there was a musty odor. There I DID notice significant improvement and was pleasantly surprised.

I ended up going with backing soda to get the pet odor out of my living room carpet. I don't think two bulbs could have dampened the odor in my living room because it was in the carpet mostly - but in my bedroom (a smaller space) I certainly noticed a difference. The must smell is gone with only one bulb on!

Perhaps more bulbs would have worked in my living room, but at $19.99 for a 2 pack, I wasn't about to buy more - a little too pricey. However, I'd still recommend these bulbs. Pretty novel idea.

Keep up or take down?

I got this framed poster from my last boyfriend Nathan back in 1996. We broke up amicably in 1998. Ever since, I've kept the poster up in my apartment. Now that I have moved and have a new apartment, I stopped to ask myself if I should keep it up or take it down?

It's a very nice print by artist Steve Walker. But am I keeping it up to remind me of Nathan - and if so - is that ok? or is it time to move on?

I need some help with this decision. Please comment! Thanks! - that is, if anyone actually reads this.

Apple's new iPod nano

I'm a total Mac addict and was excited to see Apple's new iPod - the iPod nano announced on Wednesday. The nano replaces Apple's wildly popular iPod mini. About as tall as a business card and as thick as 3-4 credit cards, the new iPod nano uses flash memory to hold either 500 or 1000 songs in addition to color photos, album art, podcasts and audiobooks. Check it out at apple.com!!
